Tip: Color Coding A Move

Tip

Sometimes visual cues can be the best forms of communication...

In an ideal world, we’d all hire movers for every move. But in my world, we happen to be moving twice in one year (once into a rental, then into our new home when it’s built), and I’d rather not pay twice. Plus (and this is no small detail) I love packing. For trips, for care packages, you name it. So pack up our house I did.

Since our living situation is temporary, there is no reason to unpack everything.  Winter clothes, fine china – we can do without countless things for 7 seven months.

To help with the transfer, I color coded the boxes.  In keeping with my desire for an organized approach to the art of simple stylish living, I kept the system as simple as possible.  I taped a purple post-it to every box that would remain packed.

Those boxes went straight into the basement – no muss, no fuss. If I was not on hand the moment they entered the new abode, it made no difference. Everyone already knew the system. Purple post-it = leave it alone.
