Tip: The Reusable Grocery Bag

Tip

I love my Indiana homestead. But I have to give a shout out to California this week, in honor of it being the first state to ban single-use plastic bags.

Allow me an homage to reusable grocery bags. I've accumulated a nice collection over the years. By using them, I help out our environment in my own little way. It's all about baby steps over here at A Serene Space. However for a while, early on, I forgot to bring them with me to the grocery store. I'd leave them at home then realize it in the check-out line. Does anyone else have this problem? I try to do good, then my scattered brain scatters my good intentions. Oops.

No worries, though, guys! I discovered a solution that fits right into my organized approach to simple, stylish living. I store my grocery bags in my car. When I have unloaded the groceries, I take those 30 extra seconds to carry the bags back out to my car. (I couldn't agree more with Allie H.'s suggestion on The Interview: "Don't put it down when you can put it away.") The bags just always live there. I hang them behind the passenger's seat - easy access to grab yet not cluttering up my car.

ALSO: I have one particular bag that folds down into a perfect square. That one -- it lives in my purse (I'm looking at your city dwellers and/ bike riders -- basically anyone without a car). I probably use this more than any other - those teeny tiny errands where I run in for one or two items or shopping for a gift or toiletries. The quick stops.

Let's give these reusable bags a home that adds efficiency to our lives!

And hey, let's be real -- sometimes I forget to bring the bags into the store even though they are right at my side for the grabbing. It's called being human. No biggie. I have a nice little collection of brown bags. And I have a use for them that I just love. Tune in next week to find out what it is!
